Applications open for Top Workplaces 2022

The capital region’s economy and labor market continues to experience the tumult caused by the coronavirus and its continuing fallout.

The good news for workers is that unemployment has fallen steadily from the peaks of pandemic shutdowns last year. Now, at least in some areas, jobs are so plentiful and there is such a shortage of workers to fill them that it drives up wages. This is especially true in the service economy.

There are still posters at local big box stores advertising $ 20 an hour for cashiers, and local recruiting companies have reported that workers are more selective about the jobs they consider and take, based on criteria. such as the possibility of having flexible hours or working remotely.

If there’s ever been a time for employers to brag about their positive attributes to attract new workers and keep those already in the fold, now is. And the Times Union’s Top Workplaces program is designed to give employers a chance to do just that.

Applications are now open for the 2022 Best Workplaces Review. Naming your company or employer is easy. Just go to www.timesunion.com/nominate or call 518-636-0132. (An FAQ with full program details is available on the nomination site.)

The deadline for nominations is October 29, 2021.

Any organization with 35 or more employees in the Greater Capital Region is eligible to participate, including public, private, non-profit and government workplaces. Eligible counties are Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren and Washington.

To choose the winners, short employee surveys of 24 statements will be conducted by Energage, Times Union’s research partner in this project. Energage conducts Top Workplaces for Media surveys in 59 markets and surveyed over 2 million employees in 8,000 organizations in the past year. Last year, the company invited nearly 700 employers in the Capital Region to participate, 77 were interviewed and 62 were named Top Workplaces.

Companies will be surveyed from September to January.

Employers will then be classified into small, medium and large categories. The winners will be announced in a special report to be published in April 2022.

The Times Union Top Workplaces is more than an awards program. It aims to provide useful feedback to employers, regardless of rank.

Participation is free and voluntary. Employers can pay Energage for more detailed assessments, but there is no obligation.
