The Walking Dead TV series

One of the best horror comics is now set to become a television series and based on the initial script things are looking good for the story of Rick Grimes and his attempt to survive the fall of society.  Grimes is a cop who wakes up in hospital after being in a coma due to a serious gunshot wound received in a shoot-out with an escaped convict.  It's a simple trick and was used in both the Day of the Triffids and the more recent 28 Days Later to place the main character in world that's changed beyond belief while they were sleeping.  Thus you learn what's happened along with them as the horror unfolds of the worlds rapid fall in this case to the dead returning to life and trying to kill the living.

Where this scores is that the zombies pale into comparison with some of the groups of survivors they meet and the effect living in constant fear of their lives has on them.  The book had no rules and major characters could die as easily as minor ones with the worst horror being what they are driven to do in order to survive.

Mini series can be hit and miss but I'm hoping this one takes a healthy meaty brain sized chunk of ratings enough to be bought by a UK channel.

'What.. What are you going to do with us?'

'Don't really know, still thinking that over. Won't be good I can promise you that...  Hold him down...'
