Blizzard drop RealID idea

http://www.lossofprivacy.com/index.php/ … -backdown/

If you didn't know they wanted people to use real names in what I presume was a bid to reduce flame wars and general forum unpleasantness. The trouble is some people take online gaming way too seriously and although they thankfully aren't common there have been cases of people attacking others over things done in game.

The principle was fine enough but frankly the first thing you need to teach people about the internet is that there are some people out there who think that you kicking their bum in a game is an excuse to go and burn your house down.

My Jarate tidal wave tactic in TF2 has gotten a few rather aggressive responses but at least the individuals in question are kept distant by a user name.  Although the angriest ones judging by their voice communications are also across the Atlantic I must say I never seem to get bad responses from German players to my drenching tactic.  I can of course draw no conclusions at all from this. 5
