Personal domain name

I have been thinking about setting up a family domain name for a while now, and would be grateful for any advice.  Something like thesmiths.me.uk.

I would like to have a number of emails at this address, say a generic catch all like home@thesmiths.me.uk, as well as say at least four more (thinking of the future), for say dave@thesmiths.me.uk, rita@thesmiths.me.uk, etc.

The one I want is apparently available - I suppose I can just set these up to forward to our current email address, but can I then send emails that look as if they come from the thesmiths address?
I am not worried about webspace currently.
I might want to set up a couple of mobiles to access the various email over time as well as the home PC via Outlook.

Cheers for any advice

C.

Re: Personal domain name

Its very easy.
You need to use an email server, so assuming you just purchase the domain with  email forwarding then forward each email to
your existing server  (I assume blueyonder?)

In you email client setup there is a field in the/properties for entering your return address.
Put in the your new email  address.  dave@thesmiths.me.uk
This  will be the one any recepient sees not the Bluyonder one.

Oh No not again!!

Re: Personal domain name

You will help cut down on spam and phishing you should break up the name.  Using the above dave1@the.smiths

Re: Personal domain name

Thanks guys

Any recommendations for how I go about purchasing said Domain? Does one organisation give them out or does it depend upon what ending you want? (real newbie at this).

Re: Personal domain name

I did - I kinda got overwhelmed by the huge amount of info - sometimes it seemed hard to tell what was being helpful and what was just trying to sell me something.
I will have another go though.
