WTG Microsoft

Well done Microsoft. Son no2 xbox360 kind of died again. There was sound but no picture. He did all the usual checks including changing the tv and checking all the cables. Got his dad to call up and explain the problem. He was told to register online the fault and that it would cost £80 to repair this included postage. The next day it was pick up Thursday 5th Nov, today it was returned or so I thought. Turns out they have replaced the console with a brand new one as it would have taken too long to try and repair and they gave him a months free access to online games.  Now is that cool or what big_smile

Re: WTG Microsoft

I wonder how much money MS are actually making on console sales considering the high failure rate of the things?  It's nice to see they do the right thing over them but they really should improve the reliability of the machine a bit as even Sony are willing to admit they needed to do so with their PS3.

I guess Nintendo are the ones getting it right with the actual hardware as apart from broken controllers the Wii seems to be bearing up well. hmm

I was under the impression that Microsoft were the only ones that had admitted that there was an issue (and subsequently extended the warranty by 2 years). Despite many reports & rumblings (as well as forum posts) suggesting that Sony's PS3 was far from the most reliable console (but admittedly still more reliable than the 360), I've yet to see any acknowledgement from Sony (or indication that they're doing anything to address it). There have even been comments suggesting that Sony are not always honouring their existing 1 year guarantee...

That's not to excuse Microsoft from having put together a somewhat below par piece of kit though... (Having said that, both of my 360s have been problem free - and one of those is 3 years old already and the other will be 3 next year...)

Re: WTG Microsoft

The slimline PS3's main point is it's enhanced reliability although just like any company including MS they are reluctant to deal with this stuff until pressured.  MS were denying the problem at first which seems to be the way companies operate these days sadly.  Too many lawyers, we need a worldwide cull.

Re: WTG Microsoft

Had one of the Apple Time Capsules at work.

My boss told me he thought something wasn't working right two days after I read about an issue where these boxes seem to be failing about 18 months after purchase. No great surprise - the box was 18 months old and dead as a dodo.

Called Apple, after confirming that it was out of warranty but making a point of mentioning that the issue was being widely reported on the internet I was put on hold for 2 minutes. The guy didn't admit to a widespread fault, but did agree to replace the unit without any fuss - got it the next day.

I think that's how some of these bigger companies have to operate. Admitting to a design fault could require a recall, simply replacing without any fuss is far cheaper....

A guys printer is broken and about 18 months old but he bought the extended warranty. Trouble is the manufacturer have no idea about the warranty, although the reseller insist that they are simply selling the manufacturers part.... See how this turns out - all I know is that I need to get a new printer from someone!!
