Bulletproof or G6 FTP Server
Blueyonder HSI customers are allowed to run an authenticated FTP server as long as they do not have more than 10 concurrent connections and it is used for personal use, not for the Internet or BY populace as a whole. (See running servers FAQ). One such FTP server program is Bulletproof FTP. This used to be called G6. However it is the same FTP just the names changed to protect the innocent.
The bulletproof website cab be found at: http://www.bpftpserver.com/
A quick guide to setting up a password protected account in G6 is given below, but the following info is also used when setting up Bulletproof FTP as they are exactly the same :
When you open G6 this is the main screen
Click on setup/user account. On the new screen you first need to add a new account. To do this you need to click the RIGHT mouse button in the user accounts box and select Add.
Give the account a name and you will see that G6 generates a password for that account. You can change the password if you wish to.
Now you need to share a folder. RIGHT click in Access Rights box and select Add
Select folder(s) on your Hard drive that you wish to share.
Then tick the boxes to allow people to read, write, delete your files etc..
Then click OK
This takes you back to the main screen. Now you can put your server online.
Once online you can see your IP. Mine shows 2 - one for my home network and one for the Internet. Its the Internet one you need to give to your client(s). In my case 80.193.91.21
The port will always be port 21 unless you change it, as 21 is the FTP port.
Now people can connect to your server to upload and download files. However do remember you are only allowed 10 concurrent connections and your server MUST be password protected.
You may need to add an entry in your firewall to allow access to port 21 and port 20. If you are having problems with people not able to connect to you go to https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and check on the status of port 21. If it is not open then your firewall is blocking the FTP, especially if you are on WinXP and haven't disabled the inbuilt firewall [**] link to disabling winxp firewall.
From G6 website http://www.bpftpserver.com/?page=faq :
I have setup my ftp server correctly but I am the only one who can get directory listing !
What is wrong with my server ?A10) The problem usually encountered is a firewall on the network which does only let port 21 open, Ftp server needs port 21 and port 20 (or main port - 1) to be opened and authorized on firewall otherwise users will be able to send command (USER, PASS, CWD ...) but won't receive any listing or download data. Port 20 is called data-port and must be opened on the firewall.
